"Mama, you cooking breadfruit again?" Sammy asked and stamped her little feet on the bare earth in the detached galvanized kitchen.

"Child is that we have." Her grandmother continued to put the breadfruit into the blackened pot which was properly settled on three blackened stones.

Sammy pouted her mouth and folded her scrawny arms. Her grandmother turned to look at her wishing she could
give her more.

"Sam, we poor but we have happiness. Now go for the book Aunty Elma send for us to read."

Sammy's face brightened as she dashed out of the kitchen.

He gazed upward, frantically scanning shelves. It was Sunday - Sumptuous Sunday - a day where there was experimental replication, culinary adventure, and yummy dishes.

He took and flipped through book after book, growing sadder, fearful that he would fail on his quest. Suddenly, there it was! Happiness graced his face with a smile. Avocado was in season; guacamole had been today's intended experiment.

Breadfruit chips already prepared, he followed the recipe and made the dip to perfection.

He presented breadfruit chips and guacamole to her with flair and they laughed, joked, and ate, enjoying their quiet Sunday afternoon.

Ma Tita sat, open book on lap, near the breadfruit tree; lost in thought and weepy-eyed.

She had taken care of her eight-year-old twin grandsons since their parents' fatal accident two years ago.

Though troublesome at times, they had brought great joy to her life.

Today she had received a letter, from their Auntie Clarice who lived in England and from whom she had not heard for quite sometime, saying that she would be coming to take the boys to live with her in England.

Ma Tita was devastated, her happiness now shattered.
